The 2008 British Open, July 17th – 20th

Royal Birkdale Golf Club
Southport, England

In 1860, Willie Park received The Challenge Belt for winning the first Open Championship played on a 12-hole layout at Prestwick Golf Club. Let's just say things have a changed a bit over the years.

Today, they play for the Claret Jug and current holder Padraig Harrington who won in another exciting playoff at Carnoustie Golf Links, will head to Royal Birkdale Golf Club in defense of his title, a place that has occupied its present site since 1897 nine years after the club was founded.

The basis of today's design, with fairways snaking between huge sand dunes, was created in the 1920s. In preparation for the 1965 Open and Ryder Cup the clubhouse was extended, a new par-three 12th hole created and the closing holes re-developed. The course was also the scene of the dramatic halved Ryder Cup encounter in 1969.

The 2008 Ryder Cup, Sept. 18th – 22nd

Valhalla Golf Club

In 2006, it was Darren Clarke’s winning point on the 16th green of the K Club’s South course that cemented victory for the Europeans. Surrounded by his teammates and players from the other side, thousands were on hand to witness one of the Ryder Cup’s more memorable and emotional moments.

So, what will Valhalla bring in 2008? Can Captain Paul Azinger inspire his team of stars led by Tiger Woods to regain the trophy that has eluded them on the last three attempts, or will the Europeans continue their recent dominating form?

Don’t miss out on the excitement of golf’s greatest team event.

Ryder Cup history is full of magical moments that will live forever in the folklore of the competition. Of late, history has not been kind to the Americans but hopefully the leadership and experience of 2008 Captain, Paul Azinger will help turn the tide.
